Trollocs are basically orc ripoffs, anyway. And myrdraal are ringwraight ripoffs. So it should easily be doable if Jackson could do it nearly two decades ago.

I disagree with this, trollocs are stitched together from different animal parts, orcs are nothing like that imo... when I read it, it 'felt' different to me. I would be more scared if I came across a trolloc than an orc.

OTOH, this show probably doesn't have the budget LOTR had.

This is what I was thinking as well.

I agree. I think Trollocs are meant to be the orc analog of the series, but they are described having a distinctly different appearance and their behaviour is more animalistic.

Yeah, but like, in terms of what is needed to bring them to the screen, I feel like they'll be quite similar. I would also expect that effects, both practical and digital, have gotten a lot cheaper now than they were two decades ago.

I think it will come down to which is cheaper. Possibly with the time it takes to makeup someone into a Trolloc it might be cheaper to CGI. . . :cheeseeni:

We might also see things change a lot from first to second series if it dose well and is granted a bigger budget.

I think this must be true, there's a lot of effects on TV right now and not all of them are on big budget shows. I'm thinking of like Carnival Row, even the dreaded Shannara Chronicles had decent CGI (it was the plot and characterization that was botched, I thought the visuals were nice.)

Like how in GoT the White Walkers got more CGI'd as the series progressed. They started out as heavy on physical makeup/prosthetics with CGI glowing eyes, but by the end, I think their whole faces has some CGI elements to make them appear more skeletal.

I think they could do some Henson-type work for the Trollocs and other things. Might be more expensive than CGI, but given that they could probably reduce the number of EotW encounters/battles to 3 (or so) times, I think they would get a huge bang for their buck with practical FX, especially if they could change up the armor pieces on the different faces from scene to scene. Set it at night and you could get away with even more.

Like honestly if FX makeup artists and puppeteers aren't chomping at the bit to have a whack at this I'd be surprised. Trollocs seem like pretty much a dream to design for that group. :)

AHAHA, my first thought was "that sounds like a challenge from Face Off"! My husband and I love that show.

Something tells me you don't mean the classic John Travolta/Nick Cage movie.

LOL. No it's a competition show for makeup artists. They do special effects makeup (along the lines of like Star Trek Klingons, etc.)
