I'm nervous as heck about joining this site for some reason @_@ but eager to make friends who also follow the wheel of time series! My name is Chris, but I prefer to be called Sephi.

I'm 30 years old and started reading the books about a month or two ago, and I'm at book six so far. (I'm a wee bit obsessed). I'm not sure what to say, other than that back on the Wheel of Time Reddit, my opinions tend to be somewhat controversial. (especially because I hate the fourth book's first 39 chapters)

My favorite character is Perrin, originally due to his wolf abilities but then it grew even further than that because he went to the Two Rivers and rescued it (Which Rand and Mat didn't do) which kind of made his struggle feel much more personal, in it's own way. Regardless, my favorite book so far is "The Dragon Reborn" (book 3) and I've barely started Lord of Chaos, but I'm prone to going through these books rather quickly lol. (I finished Eye of the World after about one week, the Great Hunt after about two weeks. Dragon Reborn after two weeks. Can't remember for the shadow rising but it felt like I was reading that book for 50 years and just wouldn't end- didn't help that I was constantly putting the book down and procrastinating from reading it- and often had to force myself to read it at all, because it was hard to get myself to do it. It became an obligation to finish it, all the way until chapter 40- then I plowed through the rest in a couple days as I loved that part. Finished fires of heaven in a week and a half)

Hmm, not sure what to say. My favorite female character changes VERY often, but I dislike Nyenaeve- if that helps.

Welcome to Tar Valon! Nynaeve isn't one is my favorites, either. She's very demanding and a bit stereotypical of a bossy woman. I prefer Verin, myself.

Welcome to Tar Valon, Sephi! You've got quite the journey ahead of you! Perrin is one of my favorite characters, but my two main favorites are Aviendha and Siuan.

A hundred thousand welcomes, Sephi! :welcome Verin has always been one of my favorite characters. My favorite book in the series is close between The Fires of Heaven and A Crown of Swords, with the latter being slightly ahead of the former.

I'm not sure where to begin- I want to share what I said on reddit with all of you, but it looks like I can't do that without getting spoilers for the rest of book 6 and all of 7 and 8 @_@

You can absolutely make topics in the forum if you'd like to talk about a specific thing. No one is going to spoil you on purpose about where you're at in the book. Just say where you're currently up to and we'll keep it at that level for you so you can continue to enjoy the books. If you do have any issues, feel free to report a post in there and I can take care of it for you.

I like Verin so far, but she's not a favorite. My favorites are hard to say definitely but I really like Siuan, Elayne, Morgase, Ewgene (for only the first two books so far. The remaining books she's turned bland and is just 'training montage, the character'), and Min. Easily my favorites. Though the constant sexism between both the women and men makes it even more difficult to like the women than the men (they seem to be even more sexist than the guys are. But either direction, it greatly angers me)

Both are truly great choices. Aviendha can annoy me sometimes, but I like her. The annoyance drops her out of favorites.

Hey Sephi!

That's a shame.. prevents me from having any clue where to post until I've finished the 8th book, which will take awhile. (though if my pace continues, maybe not as long as it would take some). I feel like this would be more friendly if there were sections for books 1-3, then 4-6, then 7-8. (I'm aware that supposedly after book 6 it hits the "slog" where the pacing takes a nose dive until around book 10 I believe they said?)

It just feels like the only way I can talk about the books and avoid spoilers is to have finished the first 8 books, which is rather daunting, don't you agree?

Wow! Verin seems to be surprisingly popular around here! :D

Welcome to TarValon.net! :D

Thank you! (and thank you to everyone else I quoted here too!)

Welcome! Nyenaeve is my favourite character, so those are fightin’ words :p

To be honest, I actually really liked her at first. I found her annoying side to be tolerable because i thought she would outgrow it....I've started book 6 and she still hasn't yet and it's making me very mad lol. She's still an insufferable know it all and childish.

Welcome to Tar Valon :D

Thank you!

Welcome! :) Nynaeve is a polarizing character, some people love her and some just hate her
hahahaha. She was never a favorite but I actually used to like her, but with each book that gradually declined until by the time book 4 or 5 came along, I started to genuinely dislike her XD

Welcome to Tar Valon! Don't be nervous, we're friendly....mostly... :look:

XD Seem to be so far! Nobody I know reads these books, and when I try to get them to start to they always say the same thing "the pacing is too slow, so it's boring. I don't want to even finish the first book!". I agree, the pacing is truly bad (especially for books 1, 2 and 4..at least for my first read throughs of them) but I have gotten used to it and I like the characters way too much to mind anymore XD

No reason to be nervous, glad you found your way here. Welcome!

I guess I just have no clue where to begin XD

Cool! A fellow newbie! I'm jealous.. all of you guys have Wheel of time sounding names and I'm sitting here like a dunce with a username I've used everywhere else. Makes me regret my name choice XD

I will say that the Verin game might have an edge on you since we know how her story arc goes. Trust me. You're in for some fun.

You can still post in the 1-8 forums, just let people know you haven't gotten that far, and try to stay out of anything that says it's for stuff you haven't read. Definitely stay out of the 9-14 forum if you don't want any spoilers. Everywhere else is good and a great way to get to know us better!

You can change your name up until a certain point. Maybe someone else has the details because I can't find the specifics. It's been awhile since I searched.
Welcome!

Welcome to TarValon.net, you will find a lot of diversity in opinions here.

While Nyenaeve also irritated me through the series, she and many others end up showing the strengths in the end and they learn and grow to become better people in the end. The transition is not easy for them and it is their ability to make these changes gives me my respect for them.

Nynaeve is my favorite too, but she does grow. You might be surprised!
