Are there forum shortcuts?

Heya!

So, for accessibility reasons, I rely on shortcuts for many things. The standards for bolding/italicising text seems to apply, but I can't seem to find one for "post quick reply" or "create thread". Does one such shortcut exists, and what is it, if so?

I use a Mac + Safari.

Great questions! I’m going to defer to our experts who are not me.

Would y’all have a good answer here? Thank you!

I can look and see if Xenforo has a list of anything.
I found a list of hardcoded shrotcuts for the editor like you said (bold and italics and the like) but not one for the actual forum software.

Looks like from this thread there might be more in the 2.x branch of form software we are moving to though.
https://xenforo.com/community/threads/keyboard-shortcuts.140266/
But will have to see once we get it setup how/if they work.

I found that Option+Control+S submits posts though (on my mac keyboard) .. so might be more commands we don't know about?

I think it would be great if someone from our tech team could figure if indeed there are other short cuts that would help for a range of accessibility needs.

I appreciate that it would be useful but I don't know that our team will be finding lots of details on this.

This is the documentation provided by Xenforo for the 1.X forums:
https://xenforo.com/docs/xf1/

I did not find any results related to this topic.

I did do a quick google search and found some mixed information related to shortcuts though from forum posts in the Xenforo community and other general sites but most I found are for the editor or request like these to add more shortcuts to the forums them selves.

The editor is created for 1.X looks to be created by a different group and is just used in the forums software (and will change vendor in the new 2.X forum software), this would explain why it might be setup with shortcuts but not the forum software its self.

I also suspect the lack of shortcuts is also related to compatibility requirements between browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc), operating systems (PC, Apple, Android, etc)

In the reading I am doing related to the 2.X branch of the forums that we plan to upgrade, I think we will have more options but I don't know all the details yet. In the future we may be able to look into add-ons that also help with this sort of thing or see what compatibility with third party accessibility tools we can work on.

Right, well it's kind of like you don't know what you don't know, situation. People could come to you and point out spots in the system that make using these forums more difficult, but I hate putting the onus on them. I just...don't otherwise know how to determine what's missing.

We're also already working on moving to 2.0, and my hope is that we can more fully explore that platform rather than spend time on this one when we will hopefully be on the upgraded, already-more-accessible version sooner than later! :)

This concern is absolutely on our radar. Thank you for your patience. :)

Thank you so much for the response and looking into it. Any estimation on when the switch to the new software will happen? It'd be lovely to have a frame of reference, if one is at all available. I hope that with the new software switch we can clean up emoji accessibility as well [such at it is now, it isn't screen reader compatible] -- flagging that for you to keep in mind as well for the switch. Appreciate it!

No specific set time as yet! We're working on it, and we'll be absolutely sure to share with the community when that timeline has been finalized. :)
