Anybody Wanna Make a Shawl?

Get ready for a shawl sew-a-long! Even if you have one, you definitely need two.

Seriously, making a shawl is a great way to get your feet wet sewing or, if you're a more advanced seamstress, hyper focus on details. There's little (if any) fitting or tailoring, straight lines, and it's very easy to hide mistakes. It can be as elaborate or simple as you want.

I've heard sewster? There isn't really a great word for it.

After all this time, I've never made a proper AS shawl for myself. Maybe I'll finally get around to it! Of course the fabric I want is in India so looong shipping times.

Very possible, but will obviously take longer. I don't think it would be hard at all. @Roheryn ni Galghandhrei t'al'Djinn will be taking the lead on this, so she is welcome to contradict me, but I can't think of anything that would make this overly difficult.

Given that it is pretty simple straight seams, it might be tedious but definitely doable without a machine!

I believe @Dar'Jen Ab Owain has done hand sewing and could elaborate. Maybe @Elia LePhant? I dunno, I just searched Hand Crafts for "hand" and looked at the results.

I’ve made whole garments hand sewing. A shawl would be very easy and wouldn’t take that long in terms of hand sewing. If some people are interested in doing it that way, I can probably help guide you through that part.

A general shawl appears to be mostly straight lines, so I would have to say would be pretty simple to do by hand. And you could certainly add fringe. I have less experience with adding symbols like the Flame of Tar Valon, but would image it should be easy enough to do.

Yes it’s just hand appliqué and easy to do.

Alternately, if it really is silk, it would dye to any color.
