Aes Sedai Costumes - TV Show

We now have some decent pictures of Aes Sedai thanks to the Hall scenes in Episode 6. There are some similarities that we can likely attribute to nationality, although I think in places the outfits get a little formulaic.

Here is my album that's a mixture of screengrabs plus a few official pictures. It's kind of frustrating that there aren't official pictures of the Yellows and Greens (especially Green since I couldn't find a good picture of them otherwise). But here are the best examples from each Ajah:

It hit me the other day that Elaida is one of the Red Sitters. If she's the one on the right, she's got the look down PAT.

And this is what I mean by formulaic. Actually, looking at the Blue and White, they literally have the same pattern on their underskirts. I'm guessing this is due to budget constraints? Also I'm going to guess now that these are Andorans, they seem to have an English vibe with those necklines and sleeves. One thing I noticed in the behind the scenes videos is that the costume designer expanded a bit and didn't just look at the exact time periods RJ copied, but looked into wider related concepts.

With the English vibe, at least those of us with a modicum of a historical wardrobe can begin to shape an Aes Sedai look without too much sewing or outside trouble... if we're careful.

I was also thinking there’s also a style of dress that I swear looks like Jedi robes. Especially if you look at the Green, but there’s also a White and a Brown.

I saw on her Instagram page that Bernadette Banner got hooked on WoT, and is making (and filming the process of making) Moiraine's White Tower outfit.

Thanks for posting these pics! I had a hard time clearly seeing the Gray outfits during the episode so this really helpful.

My thoughts on Gray specifically:

• the outfit of the Sitter on the left gives me a Victorian/steampunk vibe
• the outfit of the Sitter on the right feels like a combination of a Catholic nun's habit and some other religious-themed garb

I don't love the Gray outfits but I don't hate them either. So far there isn't a Gray Ajah outfit that I'm excited to try to recreate though.

I’m generally intrigued by the outfits, but can’t see myself running out to make or get one made. The leather cinch and accents for most of them is a no for me.

From what I've seen of the images posted, and from my reading specifically for clothing references (New Spring, in particular), the individuals clothing was inspired by their region of origin and their Ajah.

Thus, find a design you like, and make it in the hues of your Ajah of choice. I think these designs would look awesome in various shades, so excited to see what folks do with it.

I'm going to call these "Tairens, Probably" because of the tattoos:

Borderlanders? More specifically Shienarans. Do the design right, and all or most of it can be repurposed for your Jedi costume.

Not sure, open to comments. I can't pull up the "behind the scenes" stuff until I got home, although I do remember that it exists now.

I'm decently certain these are all Cairhienen due to the similarities to Moiraine's dress in the shoulder pads and waistline puckers/puffs/whatever those are. Oh and the tie-dyed fabric.

That's what accessories are for.

I do gotta say, I even though some of these look close to each other, I LOVE how diverse the patterns are, in comparison to the books. Like...all the dresses are floor-length with long sleeves. ALL OF THEM.

If you look at the Moiraine/Cairhienen Sitters example, the dresses are similar styles in some ways but she just drops the belt part. So I'd make whatever dress style you like and ignore the cinches. I'll probably be ignoring a lot of the leather parts. I know they'd add to the costumes, but I don't have leather-working experience and that stuff is expensive.
