I will update the title of this thread weekly with the new chapters so we can keep our conversation flowing in one thread.

We are starting with Eye of the World, with only the original prologue (though if you've read the newer one, feel free to discuss it too, but it's not counted in the chapter count).

General format: Talk about whatever you want. Spoiler tags are NOT necessary, so if you're reading along and you haven't finished, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS.

Schedule for The Great Hunt:
[strike]EoTW 49-53; TGH Prologue - Chapter 1[/strike]
[strike]2-9[/strike]
[strike]10-16[/strike]
[strike]17-23[/strike]
[strike]24-30[/strike]
[strike]31-37[/strike]
38-44
45-50 (With the possibility of the beginning of TDR)

Hm, I may have to start a week late, because all my books are on my iPad, and I am in a different country from where it is! Alas.

Through Chapter 1 already.

This is the first time I noticed that Lews Therin traveled to where he made dragon mount, I had always assumed it was made on top of his castle..of course like a moron I thought the first time through that the island created with dragonmount was The Two Rivers and not Tar Valon.

Chapter 1 is such a great start, you meet Rand who is pretty identifiable from the get go and Tam is just..well Tam I love Tam and felt he got such a short stick later on in the books that he really did not deserve, Also Mat you lovable little twirp I love that he actively hides from the adults when he talks to Rand.

I haven't started reading yet but on previous re-reads, I remember being amazed at how YOUNG the boys seem in these first chapters. They really grow up over the course of the series and I love that evolution! But going from where the series leaves them back to where they started is almost shocking.

Yeah, I notice the same thing as Megana, they really are very young, and their world is very small. And I am a little sad that they never gets to see the fireworks and celebrate Beltine :look:

I'm pretty excited for this reread. :D I've never reread the series all the way through, since I first read it about 5 years ago. Confession: I haven't read the final book yet, because I wanted to do a reread first and it never happened. It's up to you guys to keep me on track!

Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: EoTW, Prologue - Chapter 6

Confession: The first four chapters were my least favorite the first time I tried reading this book. And the first time I actually read it. And probably the second.

It wasn't until I made it past the Trolloc attack that I really got into it. The slower pace of the first few chapters, the introductions...I just didn't like that stuff the first time around. Now I appreciate it, partly because we do see the boys (and Egwene and Nynaeve and to some extent Moraine) as they were before.

Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: EoTW, Prologue - Chapter 6

When I first picked up the book, I loved the prologue and when I tried to continue on to chapter 1, I kept putting it down 'cause I wanted to read about the excitement from the prologue rather than farmers traveling to t a town. :look: It wasn't boring, but it just didn't hold my attention as much and I had to start again multiple times before I actually read past the beginning. On the reread, though, I loved the opening chapters! It was great to see everyone when they were young and innocent and see how everything started. It's kind of sad knowing what's going to happen to them all in the coming books and I just wanted them to remain happy in the Two Rivers together...

I hate the prologue. It alway takes me forever to get through on EotW :look:

That is sorta the advantage I had coming to the series later in life. I was like "Oh hi there Dragon Reborn"

Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: EoTW, Prologue - Chapter 6

For me, it's not just how young the characters seem, it's how young they are. The boys are about 18, and Egwene is 16. Nynaeve is in her early 20's. When I first read EotW 20 years ago, I was 16 myself, so my perspective on their ages and behavior is really different now than it was then.

Also, I find the prologue completely tedious and always have. Yes, I get it, dude's crazy and he killed a bunch of people. Can we move this along a little bit, please? This time, I did audio for the prologue, and listened at 2x speed. It was still boring, and I'm glad to be on to the parts of the book I like.

Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: EoTW, Prologue - Chapter 6

The very first time I read this book I was completely confused by the prologue and the sudden switch into a totally different story in chapter one. I kept waiting for the story to go back to what happened in the prologue and continue from there, and when that didn't happen I was like :scratch I AM SO CONFUSED!

I'll be fine. :p

I read the prologue and chapter one so far. I kind of just really want to get to the part where Moiraine tells her badass story. :look: One of my favorite parts of the series.

Also, the black-cloaked rider (Myrddraal) gives me the shivers every time I read that part.

Oh yes! The black cloaked rider sent chills down my spine on my first read. I clearly remember the feeling when I first read it, and that was more than 20 years ago. *shudder* That scene is what hooked me.

I just got through the attack in Winternight at the al'Thor farm. I'm on a roll!
