I just wanted to give this idea a little bump! I really do think it could help with diplomacy on the forums, and allow people to better express tone in a way that's quite difficult right now.

There's no rule, they just don't actually show up on the boards in my experience! The accessibility issue is a really good point in favor of allowing them.
