Verin also says something similar in Shadow Rising. Maybe it is a go-to story that Aes Sedai sort of agree that is correct, so they can say it? I mean, they do study history in the White Tower...
Yeah, the dressmaker is a fun bit of flavour, but a bit long... I would have thought that Moiraine would have explained how to behave with a seamstress before they went in, but for her, maybe it was so natural, since she has "always" done it that way?
Having read the whole series, I always shudder when I read the part where Siuan and Moiraine consider letting Sheriam in on their secret. I don't know if Sheriam already is a member of the Black Ajah here (though I doubt it) but just consider what may have happened! :eek
I agree with Moiraine though, it is strange that they forbid them to think of their own strength in the Power, but then uses that to decide the hierarchy. Is this just so that Accepted won't start to think "high" of themselves?
Yes, I think she reflects on that in a later book, how she generally used her strength and her position in the hierarchy because of that strength, to simply overwhelm others. But she can't be as bad at it as we see her in this book, or she would never have been elected Amyrlin....
Bruce, I think Siuans temper would be worse than Moiraines when dealing with stubborn farmboys :lol
And you don't need to use spoiler tags in this forum, since all who wander in this forum have read all the books ;)
I have to admit, reading about the tests are boring for me.. But that may be because I have read them so many times, and I just want to get on with the real story :P But yes, I always laugh a bit when I read the dance section :)
I don't think Moiraine would have made a better Amyrlin than...
I think Aes Sedai mostly uses their first names, because your background is not supposed to matter in the Tower. If Moiraine was constantly called Miss Damodred it would remind everyone that she was noble born, and in the time of the Aiel War, the name Damodred was not a good association :look
I agree with chapter 4, it is a long ride and so uneventful when we have already read the description of TarValon in the main series many times... There are other long and fairly pointless chapters though...
Yes, I think Zemaile is afraid to learn "too quickly" so she fumbles longer than she actually needs to learn the weave. She doesn't know it before she arrives I think, but she could learn quicker than she does...
One reason only one daughter of a ruler have become Amyrlin is, I think, that it...
