Welcome!! So fun to see someone shout out Zelazny!

I once "traded" book series with a friend: he would read Wheel of Time if I read The Great Book of Amber. Both of us got far in our respective series, but neither finished, so I guess it was an even trade! This might be a sign that I need to give Amber another try, though!

Welcome! Always good to find someone else who's read some Zelazny :)

Welcome!

I read Feist quite a few years ago, up to the Serpentwar books. He's up for a reread for me this year, and perhaps I'll finally finish all of his Midkemia stuff up this time around. ;)

Welcome to Tar Valon!

Hello and welcome!

Welcome, rereads are like meeting up with old friends for sure. Asimov and Heinlein seem to generally top my list of rereads, and of course, WoT and LoTR.

However, I did venture into the new SciFi realm of the Expanse and the Three Body Problem. Have tried those out? I was impressed.

(PS While you are here, check out the library during your reread, invaluable!).

Hello and welcome!

Welcome to TarValon.Net!

Yeah, I started reading his stuff after he finished Wheel of Time.

Zelazny is great fun and Amber is a really easy read. I am looking forward to reading some more Zelazny. Some of my favourite book quotes are from Zelazny.

Hello, hello! Welcome to the community - from what I see here, you are fitting right in right off the bat. I wanted to quote some of your responses more directly, but then I realised it was difficult to choose, because I wholeheartedly agree with everything you've said so far and we have a lot in common. I really hope to see you around more.

Do you have any questions so far, yourself?

Welcome to Tar Valon!! I am so glad you decided to join.

I would say Brandon Sanderson is one of the more influential authors for me personally. His Stormlight Archive books have really touched my heart.

No questions from me so far - I think I have found the right forums to post spoilerific discussion topics. My main interest in WoT are the metaphysics and in universe consistency principles. Probably why I find Ishamael so interesting. I love when Ishamael theorises that infinite turnings of the wheel necessitate an eventual victory for the Dark One, but Ishamael doesn't seem to realise that if the Dark One ever wins, then he has always won and the wheel would already be broken, therefore the wheel currently not being broken, means it never is broken. Ishamaels false apriori knowledge and his lack of mathematical understanding lead him to an eternity with the Lord of the Grave, poor Ishamael.

I do really enjoy Sanderson, but I find his work to be a bit more surface level, he doesnt seem to have that depth which is found in WoT. Rereading WoT (with the foreknowledge and actively looking for foreshadowing) is really cementing how much of a masterpiece Jordans series is. Although I haven't started on Sanderson Stormlight books yet so I am looking forward to them.

Ok so I do have a question :)

Where does the Fantasy and Sci Fi (but not WoT) posts go? I want to do a post on peoples favourite authors/works (or join in an existing post if one is already present).

Thankyou in advance!

EDIT: I found it :)

Damn it, I was just about to post. Well, glad you found your way around either way! Once you get to 25 posts, you can apply for Citizenship and even more new threads will open up to you, more ways to get to know the community better and vice versa. :pleased-1:

I am stateless - I must wander the world searching for the Song. I just need to get myself a patchwork cloak made from the gaudiest colours imaginable. :)

Fair, fair. I just figure the world would be a lot more open to you, and you would have more places to search if you were not barred by being, essentially, a Guest. :shifty2: But ultimately, it is your decision.

I posted flippantly, having no idea what being a Citizen entails :)

Hopefully someone kind can guide me towards Citizenship.

Thanks to circumstance, you are stuck with my response until someone else happens to be around, too.

This thread will explain more about Citizenship from a technical point of view. Other than that, what it really means is that you will have more of the forums uncovered to explore. The community here is structured somewhat according to the WoT books, in that you can progress through the Tower if you so wish, from Novice/Recruit, Accepted/Soldier, all the way to the rank of Aes Sedai or Gaidin - regardless of your gender. Or you can stay as (Resident) Citizen - that's a great option too. As you have likely noticed, we have Ajahs for the Aes Sedai and Companies for the Gaidin, too.

First and foremost, though, this is a community, so we really enjoy having new people join that we can get to know and vice versa - the ranks and everything else included is there to help with that and add more flavour. A lot of us have been here for a long time, and have made lifelong connections and relationships. Others can attest for their part, of course. :pleased-1:

+1 I can 100% agree to this.
