To start off, my name is Hazel and I'm from Connecticut, USA. I am the mother of two beautiful children, a five year old little girl named Analiya and a two month old baby boy named Jaccson. I love to read, I always have ever since I discovered the genre of fantasy, sci-fi and paranormal. I began a spiritual path in 2020 and continue to explore paganism. Currently I am studying the Wiccan religion. I recently went back to school for my bachelor's degree for psychology. I am in my second year at the university of Arizona global campus. Although it is somewhat difficult to juggle going back to school and being a new mom again, I found that my children are my biggest motivation. I am blessed to have a huge support in my son's father as he helps me as much as as he can. I am in a bit of an odd situation. Jaccson (my two month old) and I are currently at a mother and child recovery program. I have struggled with addiction for about 15 years on and off. Thankfully, I have been blessed to find recovery again and am able to be there for my children. I use reading as a coping skill when I feel overwhelmed. Especially with the wheel of time series, I am transported into a different world when I read. I love it! My oldest daughter is with her paternal grandparents as the program only allows children under the age of 5. We are waiting for supportive housing, where they will help us pay our rent for one year. I am confident in myself that I can achieve whatever I put my mind too. Also, finding a community as this one will give extra support if I need it. Just doing a quick browse through the posts show me that this is a community with beautiful people and I am hoping to become a part of that.

Who is your favourite character in The Wheel of Time and why?
So far, I am only on book two, The Great Hunt. I found out about the series after Amazon prime came out with the TV series. I must say that I like the books a whole lot better as there are so many differences. My favorite character is hard to say. Moraine is one of my favorites although she is hard to read and super unpredictable, she has a huge heart that she tries to hide. I think she cares greatly for Egwene because she sees herself in her. My second favorite character has to be Perrin or Nyneave. I can't choose between the two. Perrin shows strength but doesn't gloat about it. He is reserved and thinks things through before acting. Nyneave's strength and resolve is like steel. I can't wait to see how her character develops throughout the series. My least favorite character is Mat. Idk why but he rubs me the wrong way.

How did you find TarValon.Net?
I found TarValon.Net when I was doing a Google search about the character Selene. Google brought me to the Tar Valon library.

What do you do? (student? job? hobbies?)
I am a part-time student and a full-time mom. I am waiting until I leave the mother and child program and go to a transitional house in Middletown to be able to start working. I have a lot of job experience as I usually get waitressing or secretary jobs but my most recent job was working at a laundromat. I love to learn that is my favorite hobby. My other hobbies are of course reading, astrology, crystal healing, meditation, the lunar cycles, the seven charkas, and I'm also learning about the Goddess Hekate.

Where are you from? What languages to you speak?
I'm from the United States and I am born and raised in Connecticut. I never really traveled I've only been to Washington D.C., Vermont and New York city once. I speak English as my primary language and speak broken Spanish. I'm teaching my son American sign language and my daughter speaks Russian from her father's family.

What is your favourite book or author other than Robert Jordan and The Wheel of Time?
One of my other favorite authors is Jodi Piccoult. Her books are all amazing. One of my favorite series is the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. I also read a lot of self-help books and spiritual books. I am currently reading Keeping Her Keys and True Magic by Cyndi Brannen. Warrior Goddess Training and Warrior Goddess Training Companion Book by Heather Ash Amara

Welcome to Tar Valon, Hazel! Your avatar is so pretty!

I can almost imagine where you are in the books. I remember reading that part for the first time in high school. You've got such a wonderful journey ahead! :joy:

Welcome to TV.net, Hazel! We're glad you're here! Mat is really a lot to deal with in the first couple of books, but he improves enormously starting in the third book--that's when you start to get chapters from his perspective, and it really sheds lots of light on his feelings and motivations (which are typically more noble than he gives himself credit for).

Hello Hazel! It sounds like your reading is helping you through a really hard time, that's wonderful to hear. Stories have an amazing power that way. You have a long journey to go with our favorite characters! I kind of miss knowing there was more story to come that I hadn't experienced yet! The first read is a magical thing! Nynaeve is one of my favorite characters too, you have her character absolutely already. Mat gets better toward the end, I didn't like him at first either. Stick with him, he'll grow on you. :)

Merry Meet Hazel! :hug Welcome to Tar Valon. May the stars light your path.

I've been a practitioner for close to 40 years.
As for your dislike of Mat...Don't feel bad about it, just don't write him off yet he tends to grow on people.

Have you read anything by Gail Baudino?

Welcome Hazel! I'm glad you found us! I love our community for the fun WoT things, but also for the real-life friendships it brings me.

We have an entire area of our site dedicated to chatting about the tv show - you should definitely check it out!

My brother-in-law is currently reading the series for the first time, and I'm reminded of how much fun it is to experience the books for the first time. I read the series as it came out, so it has been many, many years since I did my first read.

I definitely will check it out! I am trying to get the hang of the website; it is a bit challenging to figure out at first. I am sure it will get easier with time. Now that my two-month-old is with his father for a week, I will get as much reading done as possible!

Welcome to the site! And enjoy the books. They are amazing and will keep you company for a long time. The first read is so good, but it’s a series that is also excellent t to reread. Between foreshadowing you don’t catch the first time through, to just so many details and characters there is something new each time.
