Has anyone else watched this show with audio descriptions on?

The audio descriptions make it possible to enjoy the series. I'm partially sighted and have trouble discerning fine details visually. I use them together with closed captioning to discern the events going on when the scenes go quiet or dark.

Without them, I would not be able to enjoy the series to the fullest. I'm a little worried that some of the subtle background info such as
when the warders cuddle up by the fire, or other nonverbal representations of different sexualities
go unmentioned. I'll have to re-watch to really listen for those cues. They add a pleasant flair to the series, which more non-sighted people should get to experience, in my opinion. Similarly, I gotta re-watch with an eye for distinct mentions of diversity in the cast. In my neck of the woods, a lot of blind people assume everyone is white unless told otherwise, which is why that is relevant.

I noticed fairly quickly that Aes Veshan had made a Wheel of Time Teaser trailer with audio descriptions, when I was looking for an audio described version of the official teaser trailer back when it was released. I remember hoping that the series itself would have them, because I was so, so giddy.

I'm so, so glad the show has these options. I hope they're available to non-English speaking fans as well. And I wanted to share that joy with the rest of you. :joy

a whole bunch of #TwitterOfTime people are very much encouraging sighted people to use the audio descriptions, too, so that Amazon can see how much the service is appreciated. As someone with auditory processing issues I always have captions on, and I'm constantly surprised by how much people miss when they don't have captions on. Thankfully my #WoTchParty group also all like captions.

I am deaf, so I'm missing out something with the audio description  But do watch with subtitles, and always in English, because it's so much more written there than "normal" CC as well. Like how they are breathing, whistling (a clue for Padan Fain), scary music etc etc

I listened to it in first episode during rewatch and it made me laugh so hard how they kept calling Perrin "the strong jawed man" even though the subtitles said his name

I'm so happy these exist! And curious to give them a try at some point, since I'm the kind of person who frequently "watches" shows while doing other things and not really looking at the screen.

Can someone explain how to access the audio descriptions? This is something totally new for me and I'd love to see what it's all about.

The settings are in the video player, right where you find your subtitles. You'll want to find the subtitles/captions icon, click it, bring up the subtitles menu. Right next to that is "sound" where "English" and "audio description" are options. Added a visual for ya, too. :) If anyone tries this, let me know what you think!

I'm happy to hear this! I've heard from sighted friends that there are things they missed visually which the audio descriptions let them understand. And I'm delighted that they didn't make audio descriptions and captions mutually exclusive, which I've seen the Norwegian Broadcasting Channel do. :pleased-1:; I very much appreciate both.

Ooooh! I didn't know the whistling was a clue for Padan Fain, but that does make sense, so I appreciate you pointing this out! And for sure. The music/breathing indicators are helpful.

Hahahaha yeah! When that was pointed out to me I laughed as well. But wasn't he introduced by name MUCH later than the subtitles introduced his name? :P At least that was the impression I got!
