Start at the beginning. Elantris. Then Mistborn.

My first Sanderson book was Elantris. I thought that was a good place to start. He actually have good information on his site about where to start.

I really hope you enjoy it wherever you start. I am a huge fan of his books!

Let me know if you have any questions regarding a specific book or series :pleased-1:

Thank you both! I've not heard of Elantris. I'm definitely interested in Mistborn, just wasn't sure if I should start there or not.

Wasn't there a book series he wrote before he took on Wheel of Time? Sorry, I know so little about him but I felt like I really want to read his work!

Agreed. Read Elantris. Read the 10th anniversary version. Also go to his website and read chapter annotations as well.

I think both Elantris and Mistborn Era 1 were published before the Wheel of Time books. Many think that Elantris is very flawed, I personally think it's great.

His main work is the Cosmere. Elantris takes place on a planet called Sel, Mistborn on Scadrial. Both are planets within the Cosmere. There are many worlds/planets that are Cosmere, and all have different magic systems. I don't want to give anything away, but it helps to know that much, I think :pleased-1: Mistborn consists of one trilogy (Era 1) and three books which are set about 300 years later in the same world (Era 2). There is going to be one more book in Era 2, and Era 3 and 4 is in the plans.

The Stormlight Archive, set on Roshar, is the largest enstallment planned to be 10 books. As you can see in the link I provided above there are many more worlds within the Cosmere. He is a fast writer and we get at least one or two books from him a year. Stormlight 4 is planned for November and I am so excited :embarassed:mg

Oh, and if you like a quick laugh and a bit more YA books, try Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians series ;) I have read them many times, and I :rofl every time :)

Honestly, Elantris and Warbreaker are the most self contained and easily digestible. If you're looking to see if you like his style, those are what I'd recommend too. Then the Mistborn series. Then the Knights Radiant Series.

I started with Stormlight Archive. :look:

This way is fine, the other books, namely Warbreaker were written ahead of schedule to give character stores for within Stormlight. You can go in any order. If you start with SA, you get the fun of seeing a character then reading their book, and you pick up on a lot more nuance. It's really fine either way.

I don't remember for Elantris, but for Warbreaker it is
Vasher

Ahh the Elantris connection is:
Galladon is a worldhopper and has been seen on Roshar chasing Hoid with Demoux and Baon.

I'm glad you didn't because I'm curious too and I just did a 10 minute deep dive into stuff and It really makes me want to get back into reading the books.

Oh, don't forget these characters from Warbreaker and Elantris :pleased-1:

Vivenna
Nightblood
Riino (Elantris)

I started rereading SA, but then started rereading WoT instead. Now I want to switch back. Too many books in the world
